PFAS has become a contaminant of concern in drinking water. Often called forever chemicals, this large family of chemicals is being studied and tested to understand its occurrence and risk in drinking water.
Education Spotlight
“Small Public Water System Grade 1A Training Course,” for prospective new drinking water operators to prepare for the grade 1A certification exam and for others interested in learning more about operating small public drinking water systems. No prior experience is required.

Working to Achieve and Maintain Clean Air
Since the first monitoring of air quality in New Hampshire in 1962 to the passage of the New Hampshire Air Quality Act of 1967 and adoption of the first New Hampshire SIP in 1972 to establish ambient air quality standards and a permit system, New Hampshire has been diligently working to achieve and maintain clean air for the public health, welfare and safety of the citizens and environment of the state for future generations. Therefore, some of the regulations that apply to New Hampshire entities existed prior to the CAAA of 1990 or were adopted specifically as a result of state legislative action.
NHDES Through the Years
2017 marked the 30th anniversary of NHDES. Much has changed in the last 30 years to help sustain a high quality of life for all citizens by protecting and restoring public health and our beloved environment. While the work is not complete, NHDES took time this year to recognize 30 accomplishments and achievements that have impacted our environment and public health for the better over the past 30 years.
