Featured Spotlights
Outstanding in the Field!
Are you a craft beverage producer making sustainable choices, preventing pollution and conserving resources? Then you should be recognized for it! The New Hampshire Sustainable Craft Beverage Program is a voluntary recognition and technical assistance program for environmental leaders in the industry. Complete the Sustainable Craft Beverage Recognition Application and check out the Brewery Environmental Best Practices List for ideas on environmental initiatives you might implement at your operation. If you have questions or need assistance filling out the application, send an email to the Pollution Prevention Program at NHPPP@des.nh.gov or call (603) 271-6460.
Real-time Stream Flow Studies
In order to obtain stream flow data to support future management of the designated Ammonoosuc, Contoocook, Exeter, Lamprey, Piscataquog and Swift Rivers, the Instream Flow Program has installed eleven near real-time water level stations along these designated rivers. To view the last 30 days of data from these stations, please use the following link to the NH Hydrologic Data WebMap. In order to view the streamflow stations data, open the Data Layer list, check the boxes to display the NHDES Streamflow Stations and NH Designated Rivers layers (feel free to hide other layers if it makes the map easier to read), and finally close the list by clicking on the X in the upper right corner. Clicking on a streamflow station icon opens its pop-up, where you can see details about the station, a photograph of the station and follow a link to a dashboard that displays near real-time station data.
Outreach & Resources at NHGS
NHGS hosts or participates in several educational opportunities for the general public and professionals, such as field trips and lectures. Other resources and events include:
- Geologic maps and publications through our document library and upon request.
- Earth Science Week (AGI) tool kits and rock and mineral ID kits for teachers and students.
- An annual Geologic Mapping Workshop, which provides CEU credits to professional geologists.
Wetlands Pre-Application Meetings
A pre-application meeting is required for all large projects with impacts to wetlands and streams that may require mitigation. Please send an email to rebekah.j.webb@des.nh.gov to schedule a meeting for your project. There are many benefits to having a pre-application meeting early in your project planning!
- An opportunity to meet with the regional wetland specialist to discuss your project and receive guidance on the information needed to complete your application.
- Establish good communication between state and federal agencies, and the local entities involved in your project.
- Discuss avoidance and minimization measures, and whether your project will require mitigation.
- Reduce rework by all parties – saving time and money!
