Community Electric Vehicle Charging Grant Program
Potential funding opportunity aimed at installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within communities.
In June 2023, NHDES applied for funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) discretionary grant program for community-based electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). This was the first round of a $1.25 billion program and made $350 million available for federal fiscal years 2023 and 2024 through a national competitive funding opportunity.
As we waited for FHWA to review and select applications, NHDES engaged the public and relevant stakeholders to learn how we might structure a program that would result in New Hampshire communities benefiting from this investment, if funded was awarded. We were particularly interested in hearing from residents of and businesses located in under-served communities, including rural and low-income areas.
In January 2024, FHWA announced the grant recipients of the CFI funding. Unfortunately, NHDES' application was not selected for funding. NHDES will continue to monitor and evaluate programs that could support the buildout of EVSE infrastructure in New Hampshire.
