Water Well Contractor and Pump Installer Licensing
Enforcing water well construction standards, licensing water well drillers and those that install pumps on water systems.
Contractors or individuals wishing to engage in the business of water well construction or the installation of water pumps in New Hampshire must be licensed by the New Hampshire Water Well Board. The board is made up of seven members consisting of NHDES representatives, water well contractors, pump installers, technical drillers and the public. State law, RSA Chapter 482-B, gives the board authority to adopt Water Well Board Rules (We 100-1000) that detail licensing requirements and industry standards.
Water Well Contractor License
A water well contractor license is required of any entity or individual engaged in well construction. Water well construction means any method, procedure or operation to obtain water from a well including drilling, digging, well development (including hydro-fracturing or other methods), and well decommissioning. Licenses are issued by the Water Well Board to contractors and are specific to construction type.
Pump Installer License
A pump installer license is required of any entity or individual engaged in water well pump installation. Licensed plumbers and electricians are authorized to repair and service water well pumps, however they must obtain a pump installer license to install or replace a pump on a water system. The Water Well Board issues two categories of licenses, for domestic (up to three horsepower) and industrial pump installation.
Applications
Interested and eligible applicants can complete and submit an application at any time. The Water Well Board reviews each applicant and determines eligibility for examination and licensure. The Water Well Board meetings and licensing examinations are held every eight weeks.
